9th June
Cellar Project
Shipley
BD18 4QP

The Safe Network is hosting a FREE ‘TRAIN THE TRAINERS’ workshop on keeping our children safe, raising awareness in the black and minority ethnic communities.

The Safe Network has developed an exciting and innovative CD Rom based resource pack that allows facilitators to take safeguarding to the very heart of black and minority ethnic communities. The workshop will enable facilitators or people responsible for training to become familiar with the content and develop confidence in delivering it to Black and minority ethnic communities.

Please note places are limited and there is a limit to ONE person per organisation, which can be extended depending on availability of places.

The workshop includes a resource pack and lunch. The day runs from 9.15am (Registration) to 4.30pm with the workshop starting at 9.30am prompt

To book a place email Liane Jackson on info@safenetwork.org.uk or telephone 0116 234 7217 or visit www.safenetwork.org.uk for more details.

Safeguarding Update
Over the last two years, Bradford Safeguarding Children Board have been working in partnership with the Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) to raise awareness of the safeguarding responsibilities of everyone who works with children and young people and support the development of safeguarding standards and practice within the sector.

Through an appointed VCS Development Worker; Debbie Cordingley, key achievements have included:

  • The development of an audit tool that has been used extensively by groups and projects to develop and review their organisational policies and procedures around safeguarding children.

  • Model policies to provide baseline information on what should be included within policies and procedures.

  • A Safeguarding Handbook designed specifically for Voluntary Sector Groups and projects to enable them to take ownership of the Every Child Matters agenda around keeping children safe from harm.

  • Capacity building support provided to over 200 Voluntary & Community Sector groups and projects.

  • The development of tailored training for the VCS around Safeguarding Children and Young People.

Although Debbie’s role ended on 31 March 2009, the post has been a huge success and provided the “bridge” that has enabled extensive engagement between the Safeguarding Children Board and the CYPVCS.

To ensure the work continues, a joint funding arrangement has been agreed between Bradford Safeguarding Children Board and Young Lives Bradford (formerly the Children & Young People’s VCS Network) based at Bradford CVS. Through the provision of a new Information Officer Post, all the Safeguarding resources and information Debbie has collated on behalf of the sector will be managed through Dionne Norman, Young Lives Bradford. Dionne will also be able to signpost groups and projects to safeguarding training and will be keeping up to date as well as circulating relevant Safeguarding issues that will affect groups and projects across the district.

Dionne can be contacted on T: 01274 722772 or E: dionne@bradfordcvs.org.uk
