Safeguarding Disabled Children and Young People
Bradford Safeguarding Children Board (BSCB) and its partner
agencies recognise that particular groups of children and
young people are potentially more vulnerable than the
general population. Such groups may require a specific focus
to ensure that they are safeguarded and their welfare is
promoted. One such group is disabled children and young
people.
In order to provide a specific focus on disabled children
and young people, BSCB set up a time limited sub group which
draws together practitioners from a range of agencies, and
is chaired by Dave Benn, the VCS representative on the
Board. This sub group was asked to audit current
safeguarding arrangements for disabled children within the
District.
The sub group has completed its
audit, which was accepted in full by the Board in July
2008. The Board requested that the sub group develop an
action plan for BSCB and its member agencies based on the
recommendations of the audit report.
Documents, resources and local information relating to the
safeguarding of disabled children and young people will be
made available in this section of the website.
In June 2009, the
Department of Children Schools and Families produced updated
guidance for LSCBs and agencies working with families with
disabled children -
