BSCB Strategy 2011-14 - Davina Hartley
Mike Hayes
BSCB Child Injury Prevention Strategy
Preventing Unintentional Injury to Children in the
Bradford District 2011-2014
Many injuries are largely preventable. It is the duty
and responsibility of everyone to promote the safety of
children in the District. It is hoped that this strategy
will be a useful tool to help deliver that as well as
serving as a driver for change in the District, pulling
together all those agencies currently working to prevent
childhood injuries and supporting parents to strike the
right balance between protecting their children whilst
allowing them to have fun. It is anticipated that by working
together we will create a safer District for our children.

SmartRisk Heroes Report
The SmartRisk Heroes show is a high-impact sound and
visual event in which a presenter who has survived an injury
tells the story of what happened and how the injury has
affected their lives.
The show aims to increase knowledge about avoiding stupid
risks, to promote more positive attitudes towards risks and
injury prevention, and to enable people to make smarter
decisions about risk taking in future.
While the SmartRisk message is centered on helping people
become more aware of risks in general, it has a particular
focus on road safety with a clear relevance for helping
young people stay safe on the roads as pedestrians, cyclists
and passengers. It also has the potential to help them
become safer drivers in the future.
Bradford Safeguarding Children Board commissioned SmartRisk
Heroes to stage events in several schools in Bradford during
March 2011 and this report provides an independent
evaluation of the events.
